George Lucas
George Walton Lucas Jr. 1944. május 14-én született a kaliforniai Modestóban. Fiatalkorában autóversenyzőnek készült, majd súlyos balesete után figyelme másfelé terelődött. A Modestó-i Főiskolára iratkozott be, majd a két éves képzést követően felvették a San Franciscó-i Állami Egyetem angol szakára, és a Dél-Kaliforniai Egyetemre is. Így került Los Angelesbe 1964-ben. Filmes karrierje elején vágóként, világosítóként, majd segédoperatőrként dolgozott. Később tanársegédként vállalt munkát egy főiskola operatőri szakán. Diákként több rövidfilmet is készített, ilyen volt az THX-1138: 4EB, mellyel első helyezést ért el az 1967-68-as National Student Filmfesztiválon. 1967-ben ösztöndíjat nyert a Warner Bros.-hoz, ahol ismerkedett meg Francis Ford Coppolával. 1969-ben közösen alapították meg az American Zeotrope nevű produkciós irodát. 1973-ban írta majd rendezte az önéletrajzi ihletésű American Graffiti (1973) című filmjét, mely a legjobb film kategóriájában Golden Globe-díjat nyert, valamit 5 Oscarra is jelölték. Ekkoriban kezdte el írni a Star Wars IV. - Egy új remény (1977) forgatókönyvét. 1975-ben megalapította az Industrial Light and Magic stúdiót, mely készülő filmjének vizuális effektjeiért hivatott felelni. A filmet végül a 20th Century Fox stúdióval forgatta le. Az alkotás hatalmas sikert lett, melyet 7 Oscar-díjjal jutalmazott az Akadémia. Később Spielberggel együtt hívták életre az Harrison Ford nevével fémjelzett Indiana Jones franchise-t, majd további három Star Wars filmet is rendezett (Star Wars I. rész - Baljós árnyak – 1999, Star Wars II. rész - A klónok támadása – 2002, Star Wars III. rész - A Sith-ek bosszúja – 2005). Rendezői tevékenységén kívül számos produkcióban közreműködött producerként és forgatókönyvíróként is, valamint ő az elnöke a George Lucas Oktatási Alapítványnak. 1992-ben megkapta az Irving G. Thalberg életműdíjat a Governors of the Academy of the Moticon Picture Arts and Sciences tanácsától.
